The last two years have been very difficult for all of us and as we move towards endemicity, mental health issues continue to affect us whether at the workplace, in schools or in our homes. It appears to be important for children, adults and also the elderly.

The 2022 World Mental Health Day theme is "Make mental health and wellbeing for all a global priority"

In this session, we want to explore this theme in Malaysia with key stakeholders in the country -- a person with lived experience and a consultant working in policy making.

How has the last two years been for those already affected with mental health issues? How has our policy makers responded? And more importantly, what will we do differently in the future?

In conjunction with World Suicide Prevention Day, we invite you to join us to discuss on the rationale, factors, challenges and pitfalls in navigating conversations on suicide-related matters.

Our speaker, Dr Ng Yin Ping is a consultant psychiatrist in Pantai Hospital, Penang. She is currently the Vice Chairperson of the i-Life Suicide Prevention Association of Penang, and a member of the International Association of Suicide Prevention (IASP). Dr Ng has conducted regular training on suicide prevention and is working with relevant stakeholders and policymakers to promote safe reporting of suicide news, postvention and improve mental health literacy.

Each year, more than 700 000 people lost their lives due to suicide.

Due to the stigma surrounding suicide, many who are considering suicide or had suicide attempts do not seek help, and therefore are not getting the help they need.

However, suicides are preventable.

Join us this 16th of September, together with Mr. Pheh Kai Shuen, a clinical psychologist who has developed and piloted a four-step suicide prevention training program in Malaysia, known as "C.A.R.E", to learn about suicide warning signs and actions that can be taken to help someone who is suicidal.
